Meranti
An indigenous species that can grow to 60 metres.
Primates and birds like to eat the fruit which it yields after 10 years.
Likes to grow in sunny conditions and on high ground.
Damar
An indigenous species that orang utans use as nests.
Can give fruit after 15 years and grows up to 60 metres

Banyan
Also known as Strangling Fig. Hornbills love the fruit. Will grow anywhere.
Only grows up to 10 metres but will fruit after as little as 5 years.
Durian
Produces an incredible foul smelling fruit (in a very spiky husk) beloved by all primates
(including humans) and also elephants. A source of good timber and attains a height of 35 metres.
Mahogany
Perhaps the most famous type of rain forest timber. Millions of tons used as sleepers by the
Victorian railway engineers. Will fruit after 7 years and monkeys like to eat the young leaves.
Rambutan
Produces a woolly looking fruit (after about 7 years) enjoyed by humans
and other primates. The word 'Rambutan' translates as ‘The Hairy One’.
Mango
Known locally as Mangga. Birds eat the flowers and primates the fruit.
Will reach maturity after 10 years and fruit after 6.
